Summertime is here, and while we all love some fun in the sun, the heat can be tough on our four-legged family members. At DogWatch® of Litchfield County, we’re all about freedom, safety, and happy tails. Here are some helpful tips to make sure your pup enjoys the summer without overheating!
☀️ 1. Hydration is Everything
Always keep fresh, cool water available for your dog—especially when they’re playing outside. Add a few ice cubes or keep a second bowl in the shade as backup.
🌿 2. Shade is a Must
Even with a DogWatch® Hidden Fence giving them freedom to roam, dogs need a cool spot to rest. Provide access to shady areas or bring them inside during peak sun hours (10 AM – 4 PM).
🍽️ 3. Watch Those Paws!
If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws. Stick to grass or shaded paths and avoid long walks during the hottest parts of the day.
🌡️ 4. Know the Signs of Overheating
Excessive panting, drooling, weakness, and even vomiting can be signs of heatstroke. If your dog shows any of these, get them to a cool spot and contact your vet immediately.
🏋️ 5. Don’t Skip Battery Checks
Your DogWatch® Hidden Fence is your dog’s invisible lifeguard! Make sure your receiver battery is up to date—especially in summer, when dogs are more active. Not sure? Just ask us!
🪴 6. Summer = Training Time
Warm weather is a great time for training refreshers! If you’re adding a new dog to the system or just want a quick check-in, we’re here to help. The more confident your pup is, the safer they’ll be.
Stay cool, stay safe, and enjoy every tail-wagging minute of summer.
